Deadline Approaches to File Tax Appeal
Real Estate owners (both residential and commercial) in New Jersey only have until April 1, 2015 to file a tax appeal of the assessed value of their property.
You should have received a property assessment cards in early February. This assessed value is for your 2015 real estate taxes and is based on the value of the property as of October 1, 2014.
If you have not yet reviewed your property assessment, it would be wise to do so immediately to determine if your property has been over-assessed.
If you believe that your property assessment is higher than its fair market value as of October 1, 2014, you may be assessed property taxes in excess of your fair share and should consider filing an appeal.
However, time is of the essence as April 1 is a firm deadline for filing property tax appeals. Ashenfelter, Slous, McDonough & Trevenen, LLP has many years of experience in handling Tax Appeal matters.
